The Bombardier Traxx is a locomotive family based on the well-known Class 185 locomotive. Its distinguishing features: standardised and modular electric and diesel-electric traction equipments configured to run on 1.5kV/3 kV DC, and 15 kV/25 kV AC power supplies, or to haul trains on non-electrified lines.

The Traxx F-140 MS can be configured in several ways to allow cross-border service along different “corridors” by combining the safety and communication systems required in Germany (PZB/LZB), Austria (PZB/LZB), Switzerland (Integra, ZUB - option 5 units with Swiss ETCS), Italy (SCMT), Hungary (EVM120), Poland (SHP) and The Netherlands (ATB EG/ETCS).

The Bombardier Traxx is a two bogie, 4 axle locomotive in Bo-Bo wheel arrangement, with an axle weight of up to 22.5 tonnes, allowing operation on most of Europe’s rail freight networks.

The locomotives have a starting tractive effort of 270kN (Diesel) or 300kN (electric), and maximum power of 2200 kW (Diesel) to 5600kW (electric). Maximum speed is 140 km/h.
